Harmless is an award winning self harm and suicide prevention project that has been successfully delivering services for the past 10 years, since 2007. Over the past year Harmless has gone from strength to strength. We’ve increased our partnerships and been involved in more research based projects, attended and presented at conferences all over the UK in addition to holding a National conference of our own. We have also extended our training programme to raise awareness of self harm, mental health & suicide amongst the community and professionals. We have received awards for our work and recruited more staff in order to help more people.

Our wonderful Tomorrow Project continues to deliver suicide prevention and postvention work in the community. We have now been commissioned by the EMAHSN to provided two new suicide prevention pathways for both Suicide Crisis and Suicide Bereavement within Nottingham City, this will soon be rolled out to Nottinghamshire County also. We work with those directly and indirectly affected by suicide, provide facilitative support to individuals and organisations with questions and concerns about suicide, deliver workshop style information sessions to improve understanding and awareness of suicide and self harm, and promote help seeking in the community as a whole.

The celebration evening will mark a major milestone in our work, as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, and give us the opportunity to raise revenue to keep our vital services afloat. Each year we spend time with friends and colleagues, celebrating the work that we have done and the lives that we have saved and the money we raise on the night goes directly back into our life saving services.

Please come along and join is in what will be a wonderful night, learn more about our work, celebrate our triumphs and help us to raise money to keep us driving services in the field of self harm and suicide prevention forwards.

Please share, and thank you and if you want to get involved, please contact admin@harmless.org.uk

Harmless & the Tomorrow Project Celebration event a success!

On Friday 7th October, Harmless and The Tomorrow Project hosted their annual evening of celebration at the Park Plaza Hotel in Nottingham to mark the 9th year since our launch.  The event is the most important date of the year for me and the team as we celebrate our achievements, vital work and commitment to the field and self harm and suicide prevention over the past 12 months.

In the presence of The High Sheriff of Nottingham, Judy Naake, and The Lord Mayor, Mohammed Saghir; the Harmless team were joined by over 100 guests as we toasted successes, spoke about challenges and discussed our hopes for the future.

During the event we heard a moving speech made by, Kate, who has received important help from the Harmless Team. As someone who often works behind the scenes, I don’t often get to hear firsthand from the people we support, however, her words will only make me and the rest of the team more determined to ensure that we continue our vital work and, ultimately, save lives.

We are very pleased to announce that we raised £2,357. This means eight more people can now access short-term therapy from Harmless or The Tomorrow Project. This is particularly significant as demand for our Harmless and Tomorrow Project services has significantly increased over the past year.

On behalf of the Harmless team, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make the celebration event the best yet. We are extremely grateful to everyone who came along and supported us on the night. We would also like to thank everyone who donated and purchased raffle tickets and auction items; it is only with your support that we can continue to reach those who need our help.

We would also like to thank Polly Yates who provided us with some fantastic live music; Hayley Green who treated our guests to a brilliant spoken word performance and Amy Faucheux, from FX- Events (http://www.fx-events.co.uk/) who kindly donated the wonderful table and chair decorations.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank the team here at Harmless and The Tomorrow Project. We could not host the night without their continued dedication and support – our team volunteer their own time to ensure that all of our guests are looked after and treated to an enjoyable night.

Everyone here at Harmless and The Tomorrow Project cares passionately about the work we do and work tirelessly to ensure that we can support as many people as possible. I can say with pride and a big smile that we have a team of ‘life savers’ and I am pleased that we can take the time to celebrate that amazing fact.

Next year we celebrate our 10th Anniversary – a milestone we are all really looking forward to celebrating.  We hope you can all join us.

Darren Fox - Business and Operations Manager

2016 Annual Celebration Event

Friday 7th saw our 9th anniversary of Harmless. The night was buzzing with excitement and the venue was a remarkable space for us to celebrate our work.

My role that evening was to guide everyone through the night. I felt very privileged to do so and very nervous to be hosting such a significant Harmless event. My colleagues, as always, were incredibly supportive and as a team we worked together to ensure the night was a memorable one. We were very fortunate this year to have in attendance the High Sheriff, Judy Naake, and the Lord Mayor of Nottingham both of whom have been big supporters of the work we do.

There was a delicious three course meal and as we ate we were all serenaded by Polly and her colleague Iian with their wonderful music. A poignant part of the night was when Kate shared with us her personal experience of self harm. It is one thing to speak to one individual about something personal and quite another to speak to a whole room full of people. Kate’s bravery was felt by all of us that night and certainly demonstrated the significance of our service.

The night continued to be a great success with Hayley providing us with some Spoken word poetry, inspiring the poet in us all! Each year so much work and dedication goes into organising the event and ensuring our supporters enjoy themselves. We at Harmless are our supporters’ biggest fans, as without their support we would not have got to where we have today. A big thank you goes to Kate, Hayley and Polly for their time and contributions in making the night even more special.

Our annual event is an important night. It not only raises vital funds to save lives but it also provides us with an opportunity to stop and celebrate the successes throughout the year. Harmless is an extraordinary service and I am very proud to be a part of it.

Next year we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. We hope to see familiar faces again and if you haven’t attended before then we invite you and those you know to join us for a wonderful night next year!
