Stigma about suicide and self harm get in the way of seeking help

Today on gem fm we are looking at what it is that gets in the way of people seeking help for self harm or suicide. Mental health stigma, bad attitudes, what other people think… Are these things that stop people asking for help?

We are trying to change the face of services. Helping people to feel that services are accessible and are going to be able to help them is vital.

Caroline talks about the desperate need for services to change before more people lose their lives and Zoe, someone whose accessed services for self harm and suicide, speaks of poor treatment in the NHS.
